RootsPersona 4.3.0

RootsPersona 4.3.0 is out on WordPress.org. It is the biggest release in years: the plugin now reads files from many more genealogy programs, gives the tree a front page and search, and puts photos and maps on the pages of people.

From your genealogy program

  • GEDCOM 7.0 / 7.1, and GEDZIP (.gdz) or .zip archives with the photos.
  • Files from more programs: UTF-16, ANSEL, Windows code pages (Cyrillic “ANSI” recognised), KOI8-R; tags of married names, adoption, other names, the main photo and person codes.
  • Uploading a new version keeps people on their own pages even when the program renumbers them. A file of another tree is stopped before anything changes.
  • Export back to GEDCOM 5.5.1, GEDCOM 7.0 or GEDZIP with the photos, optionally without living people.
  • Import is 6 to 10 times faster: a tree of 5,000 people loads in about 16 seconds instead of 160.

On the site

  • Upload photos: choose the photo folder of your tree, and the photos go onto the pages of their people. Any number of photos per page.
  • A map of the places of a life on the persona page.
  • A front page of the tree with faces, remembrance days, ways into the tree, timeline, surnames and places.
  • Instant search over all names, places and years and the posts of the site.
  • The chart of the whole tree from your program, with zoom and search, every person linked to their page.
  • Adoption and fostering, sources in all layouts, schema.org markup for search engines.

Many fixes too: everything the GEDCOM file has is now kept, from coordinates to quoted source text. The full list is in the changelog. Update from Dashboard → Updates as usual; read Getting started to try the new tools.
